What I love about it:

Famous for all the right reasons, Red Fish Blue Fish is one of THE best places in our fair city for delicious fish and chips, “tacones” (think smallish grilled fish burrito with pea shoots, sauce and lemon-pickled onions - wow 😋), sandwiches, grilled fish on salad, plus chowder, chips and THE best deep fried pickles I’ve ever had!

Red Fish Blue Fish is located on the northern end of Victoria’s Inner Harbour, near the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority marina office. The food stand is a unique up-cycled shipping container with gorgeous marina views, as well as a top spot for watching people, seaplanes, marine traffic and sea life!

With summer coming to an end, and the long lineups diminishing, service shouldn’t take too long, but ordering ahead with the app is never a bad idea.

Accessibility Factors:

While Red Fish Blue Fish is on level ground, it is on a somewhat bumpy wood planked dock.

There is pay parking on either side of the dock, and a ramp on one side down to the dock near the Harbour Authority office, but it takes a bit of manoeuervering to get down to it. One narrow section of seating is shaded by a metal roof.

For wheelchair and mobility scooter users, seating is a challenge, but not impossible. What makes it tricky is that permanent tables and chairs attached to the dock cannot be shifted to accommodate a chair, so you have to be content with eating your take out on your lap. I used a stool as a table as it was the right height for me, though slightly awkward. Most of the table options are along a high bar attached to the top of the railings, too high for me to reach. The take out counter is quite high as well.

The closest accessible bathrooms are a five minute walk along the sea wall from Red Fish Blue Fish, located underneath the Tourist Information Centre and Milestones Restaurant at 812 Wharf Street. The bathrooms are gender-neutral, with handrails and a changing table.

Verdict:

With an eco-friendly approach to the classic fish and chip shop, doling out delicious fare using Oceanwise seafood, Red Fish Blue Fish is a local take on the classic comfort food. Not to be missed, but be prepared for the bumpy dock!
