Delicious Pizza that’s Good for Humans and the Planet!

Lojo (Lower Johnson Street) and Market Square have always been a favourite part of Victoria for me with the trendy boutiques, novelty shops and general hustle bustle. Adding to the cool factor lately is a funky lil’ restaurant I’ve recently discovered called Virtuous Pie. Just one street over at 530 Pandora Street you can enjoy a 100% delicious plant-based pizza (and ice cream!) in an accessible space with friendly and helpful staff. Don’t take my word for it - check it out, you’ll be seriously glad you did. And don’t be thrown off by the substantial step at the entrance, a staff member will happily take you around to the accessible back entryway round the back.

What I loved about it:

Delicious, creative and satisfying food in a modern, barrier free space with a large, wheelchair accessible bathroom and helpful serving staff.

A++, baby!

Accessibility Features:

Parking on Pandora, and getting you and your wheelchair/scooter out of the vehicle safely, can be a challenge due to the busyness of the area.

I suggest parking at the city operated parkade at 750 Johnson Street: (https://www.victoria.ca/assets/Departments/Engineering~Public~Works/Documents/Parking%20Info%20SEP%202021.pdf)

It’s relatively close by, reasonably priced, and Sundays and holidays are free.

Farro and Fennel Salad

Once inside the restaurant there is ample space to move around with a seating section of moveable tables and chairs well designed for ease and manoeuvrability. As mentioned above, the bathroom is roomy and accommodating, and there is an accessible back entryway round the back through the patio. One staff member in particular deserves a special shout out for helping us choose our salad and crazy delish pizza: “Thank you, Kate!”

Final Verdict:

Virtuous Pie is a winner, whether you’re vegan or not, with its fresh and inventive pizza selections. The pizza dough, and many of its plant based meats and cheeses, are made in-house. The philosophy of giving back to the community by supporting like-minded charities, while serving fresh and delicious food that’s good for humans and the planet always makes me happy. Go for it, good people!
